Evergreen trees with simple, petiolate, entire leaves. Flowers small, male, and bisexual, in same inflorescence, 4-5-merous with imbricate aestivation, hypogynous. Inflorescence a terminal panicle. Sepals free, sometimes united at base, deciduous. Petals with 1-5 prominent veins adaxially. Stamens as many as petals, free or united with disc basally, usually 1 (or 2) noticeably larger and functional. Ovary glabrous, unilocular, with a solitary ovule; style 1, filiform, terminal. Fruit a large succulent drupe.

A large evergreen tree, glabrous except inflorescence. Leaves crowded at the ends of branches; petiole 2-6 cm long, grooved apically, inflated basally; leaf blade oblong to oblong- lanceolate, 12-30 cm x 3-8 cm, coriaceous, deep green adaxially, light green abaxially, glabrous, margin entire, undulate, apex acute to long acuminate, base cuneate to obtuse, lateral veins 20-25 pairs, midrib prominent on both sides, reticulate venation obscure. Flowers small, ca. 4 mm across, yellowish green, male and bisexual, +/- actinomorphic, hypogynous, in erect terminal panicles, 20-35 cm long, tomentose-pilose. Bracts ca. 1.5 mm long, lanceolate, pubescent; pedicels 1.5-3 mm long, articulate. Sepals 4-5(-6), +/- free, 2.5-3 mm x ca. 1.5 mm, shorter than petals, ovate-lanceolate or ovate, concave, imbricate. Petals 4-5(-6), valvate, oblong or oblong-lanceolate, subacute, cream, light yellow or pink coloured with 3(-5) strong orange or reddish-brown ridges on the inner face, 3.5-4 mm x ca. 1.5 mm, glabrous, reflexed at anthesis. Disc fleshy, 5-lobed. Stamens (4-)5 or (8), stamens inserted on disc; fertile stamens 1 (or rarely 2), ca. 2.5 mm long with ovate, purple anther; staminodes 4 (rarely 6), 0.7-1 mm long, antheriferous. Ovary 1-locular with one pendulous ovule, sessile, obliquely ovoid, ca. 1.5 mm in diameter at anthesis; style ca. 2.5 mm long, eccentric or lateral. Drupe 5-20 cm x 3-4.5 cm, fleshy, ovoid, oblique, variously coloured, endocarp compressed, fibrous.
